Hand built pieces, no two are just alike which means when you give a ‘Ceramics by Joanne’ piece, it’s an original.
There’s so much joy in taking a clump of clay from the earth and creating a functional work of art. Each piece is hand built in my home pottery studio and fired twice in my kiln up to two thousand degrees. The process, start to finish, takes about a week.
I use food safe, lead free glazes....which is where the functionality comes in. These dishes aren’t just for sitting around looking pretty, but can be used as serving dishes on your dinner table.
I take inspiration for my pieces from God’s beautiful handiwork in nature, life experiences, and my desire to connect to others through my pieces.
The dogwood cross comes from a special place in heart. I remember as a little girl, my mom planted and tended a beautiful dogwood tree in our backyard, and it grew into a symbol of love and faith for our family. It would bloom right on time for Easter Sunday, and it became a tradition for me, my brother and sister and then our own children, to have our picture taken in our Easter best beside that lovely dogwood tree.--
